Shiatsu FAQ

Shiatsu is a form of Japanese bodywork that uses gentle pressure, stretches, and joint rotations to promote relaxation and balance the body’s energy flow. It is based on traditional Chinese medicine principles and is performed using fingers, thumbs, palms, and elbows.

During a Shiatsu session, you’ll lie down fully clothed, and I will use hands-on techniques along energy pathways to release tension and restore balance. Sessions are deeply relaxing and can be adjusted to your comfort level.

Shiatsu can relieve a variety of physical and mental conditions, including back pain, headaches, digestive issues, insomnia, anxiety, and stress. The goal is to restore the body’s
natural balance and encourage self-healing.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and avoid eating a heavy meal right before your session. Arriving a few minutes early to relax and centre yourself can also help you get the most from the experience.

Shiatsu is based on Eastern medicine principles, focusing on balancing energy (Qi) in the body, while Western massage typically focuses on muscle manipulation. Shiatsu is done over clothing and involves rhythmic pressure along meridians rather than kneading muscles.

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Shiatsu is performed fully clothed, so there’s no need to undress, and the techniques are applied over your clothing.

Shiatsu is generally safe for most people. However, please inform me if you are pregnant, have injuries, or have any medical conditions. We can adjust techniques to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.

The number of sessions depends on your goals and individual needs. Some people benefit from a single session for relaxation, while others seek regular sessions for ongoing support with specific conditions.
