How does a Shiatsu treatment work?

No, unlike massage the receiver remains fully clothed throughout the treatment.

What is Ki?

In oriental tradition, the word is described in terms of energy. ‘Ki in Japanese’ ‘Qi in Chinese’. Ki flows through the body like a system of Rivers and Canals.

I cannot lie on the floor. Can I still have Shiatsu?

Yes. Treatment can be given on a massage bed as well as, on a futon on the floor.

How does Shiatsu diagnosis work?

A diagnosis is made by gently using palms and fingers to feel the Hara (abdomen), for any imbalance in energy.

Can Shiatsu do any harm?

Academic research indicates that it is safe and is extremely effective at reducing a wide range of symptoms.

Is Shiatsu complementary or alternative?

Shiatsu is complementary to western medicine, not an alternative to it.

Will I have to change my lifestyle?

Your chosen lifestyle will be respected. However I can if desired, discuss ways to fine tune your lifestyle, so you get more your therapy session.

How many sessions should I have?

For relaxation or acute symptoms, you may just need one. However, you may want to have it on a regular basis. For lasting and significant change a series of 3 to 6 sessions is typical. Weekly at first; progressively extending the interval between therapy sessions.

What is Shiatsu good for?

Can Shiatsu help to relieve inflammation?

Yes. Shiatsu works on the whole body to reduce pain and inflammation and increase circulation and deeper relaxation.

Is Shiatsu good for Sciatica?

When receiving a Shiatsu for sciatica pain, you’ll likely find that you feel significantly more relaxed after each session and notice more and more lasting results as you continue the treatments.

Is Shiatsu good for back pain?

It is extremely soothing and relaxing, providing you with long-lasting relief. It focuses on the body’s meridians to promote the flow of healing energy throughout the body. Studies have found shiatsu massage to be extremely effective at treating lower back pain.

Does shiatsu help anxiety?

Shiatsu can affect neurotransmitters in the brain, increase the serotonin and dopamine levels that can help in reduce anxiety.

Does Shiatsu help with depression?

Can Shiatsu help with arthritis?

Is Shiatsu painful?

Shiatsu is not a painful treatment, and is much more about stillness, releasing tension, unblocking trapped energy and generally nurturing the body, rather than causing pain or discomfort.

Can I receive Shiatsu whilst on medication?

Yes, but please inform me on your initial consultation.

I’m pregnant-can I still receive Shiatsu?

Yes, Shiatsu is beneficial for normal symptoms of pregnancy. Please advise me if you are pregnant.

Can Shiatsu help with ongoing or incurable conditions?

Yes, Shiatsu can provide comfort and support and can often help to moderate or manage symptoms, even if the problem will never go away. Shiatsu is unique in combining deep nourishing physical touch, with subtle energy work (through acupressure points and meridians) and through this combination, balance is restored to body and mind.
